Cat Health Symptoms You Should be Familiar With

It is very important to learn about the important cat health symptoms if you own a cat.If you can know the issues that your cat has,you can easily decide on your own whether your cat requires a veterinarian care or it can be treated at home. One of the most common ways illness manifests in cats is through the eyes. For example, if your kitty has runny or watery eyes, they may be suffering from anything from the common cold to a respiratory infection that needs antibiotics.

Another common health symptom is dirty ears. Look in your cat's ears. They should appear clean and pink. If you notice what looks like dirt covering the pink in your cat's ears, your cat may be suffering from ear mites. There are drops that can be administered to eradicate these pesky mites. You should also check your cat's coat for fleas regularly. It is important to choose a flea prevention product such as Frontline to keep the fleas off your cat. Check with your vet to obtain the right dose for your cat. Doses go by weight and an overdose can cause illness or death.

Food allergies are a common malady for cats as well. If your cat does not have fleas but suffers from itchy, dry skin, they may be allergic to their food or at the least, intolerant. Your vet may recommend a change in diet or a supplement to help your cat. Urinary problems are also a common issue for felines. Males seem to suffer more than females do. Symptoms of urinary problems include urinating all over the house, blood in the urine, and crying during urination.

Hairballs are yet another one of the many cat health symptoms you may notice. Because cats clean themselves with their tongues, they are susceptible to swallowing hair. The hair gets clumped together and is expelled by the cat. You may watch in alarm as your cat heaves and hacks up these disgusting hairballs. This is quite common and you can find hairball remedies anywhere pet food is sold. Most hairball remedies are meat flavored paste that your cat will love to eat. If your cat still experiences hairballs or has other distressing symptoms, don't wait. Take your feline to the veterinarian for a checkup. While many cat health issues can be easily treated, they can lead to more serious issues if left untreated.
